“Whenever I make a genuine interpersonal connection, I am always waiting for the other shoe to drop” that might be the most relatable things I’ve ever heard someone say. Like I genuinely feel like that just tapped into my soul and I don’t feel as alone having heard that. That just completely changed my view of that song

The timing is fantastic I hear the album for the first time a little less than a week ago and fell in love with it, so I naturally listened to it 12 more times and bought the record, just to see the teaser a few days ago. When I tell you I was excited, I mean it!

I DUG him too having scored the solo LP by BOZ SCAGGS on ....Atlantic. This lp featured Allman on each track, AND .....was recorded at Muscle Sh Ala. Also we heard LAYLA every day since ut came out. So, plenty of Duane Nowadays I cherish the Anthology lp s. What s great show, ter so enthusiastic. Happy belated BD!!FROM fckng Ansterdamn

One other thing: Mountain Jam came directly after the 25 minute Whipping Post! If you listen to the end of Whipping Post on the Fillmore East album, they literally start playing Mountain Jam! (That’s almost a full hour of music - in just TWO songs!)

Hey, if your looking for female fronted album suggestions, I’d love to see a review of X Ray Spex Germfree Adolescents, Joni Mitchell’s Hejira, Splendora’s ‘in the grass’, blondie’s Parallel Lines or Eat to the Beat and Goldfrapp’s Felt Mountain. Just the ones at the front of my mind atm! :)

Fact: If you had the Quadraphonic Reel of this album, they left Mountain Jam as one song and was the only time before the CD came out that didn’t have it split in two.

I love this album with all my heart. Blue Sky is one of my favorite songs of all time, and Dickey Betts is by far my favorite member. This album is so much more impactful to me now that he's gone. It's insane to think that Jaimoe is the only member of the original lineup left.

I 'accidentally' saw the MC5 perform live at the London Rock n Roll show August 5th 1972. I was just turned 17 & I had no idea who the MC5 were. I went for the line-up of 1950's Rock n Roll legends who played that day but the effect that the 5 had on me that day was profound. I remember the ENERGY, the ATTITUDE and the way they launched into their blistering form of Rock n Roll. The Teddy Boys hated them & constantly threw cans & other missiles throughout their set & when Wayne "Machine-gunned" the audience, that made them even more possessed with hatred but I just stood there , gawping in awe at this spectacular sight & sound before me. I am so happy & so proud that I got to see the original MC5 before they broke up. I bought all 3 albums within weeks of seeing them & they have been massively important to me ever since. Abby, your work on this video is phenomenal!! I am speechless at the effort, the passion, the knowledge & the love you have put into this work & you have made it SO entertaining!! ( I watched it all over 3 days) One of UA-cam's greatest ever presentations. Just .......incredible! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! .......and oh, "my" favourite band? Well, along with the MC5, it is The Velvet Underground .......and yes, I saw *them* live too! 😲😲 ( well, the reformed VU in 1993 😎)

This was my first Allmans album. One of my dads friends used to hang with the guys as far back as the Duane years and he’d also constantly talk about the Fillmore East album. I picked up a copy of this while on break at my first job in 2001 and was sold the moment the slide guitar starts on Aint Wasting Time No More

I'm so glad you made a video about this album! One of my top 10 albums of all time. As for the weird sequencing of the album, they were just following the "psych rock" LP format of the time. That being: shorter songs first, then end the album with a long jam. From their perspective, a double album would be: short songs -> Jam then LP 2 short songs -> Jam. While it makes sense to us modern listeners to put all the short songs on one LP and MJ on the other, no one had ever released an album (or song!) like that and the label would never have agreed to it. Thanks for your touching and emotional review of this amazing album! Maybe a Grateful Dead album in the future?

I for one prefer the divided “Mountain Jam”, a solid 35 minutes of this sort of jamming is a little much for me to digest all in one go, I find I can deal with and appreciate the two separate shorter chunks a lot easier.

Late to the party again. I never owned this album, but it was part of the soundtrack of my life after high school. I had a chance to see Duane and The Allman Brothers Band live with my buddies but my new girlfriend had tickets to the Dionne Warwick concert that night and I was was highly motivated by my libido. Dionne was great. She sang all her radio hits written by the great Burt Bacharach, and besides, I'd always have another chance to catch Duane Allman. Right? My favorite Allman Brothers track is Whipping Post from the Fillmore East album. Recently I purchased a digital copy of that album, which has Mountain Jam in its entirety. Still, I think Whipping Post was their heaviest jam.

Okay, here's a kind of break-down of "what the movie is about". Sort of. In no particular order. Granted, this is off the top of my head! I haven't seen the movie in years. So, I might miss a few bits. Basically, the movie is just about The Monkees trying to "destroy" The Monkees. The "manufactured image with no philosophies". And, destroy it, they did! If, "The Frodis Caper" (a veiled reference to smoking marijuana) didn't do it, "Head" surely did! That's, basically, what, "Ditty Diego" is all about. It even starts and ends with, "Hey, Hey, we're the Monkees". And, if Head didn't do it, 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee nailed the coffin shut. From what I understand, "Present" and "Instant Replay" consisted mostly of songs they recorded very early on before the series started. I liked "Present" but wasn't a fan of "Instant Replay" and "Changes" was probably their worst album. "Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart" didn't go anywhere, either. Except for maybe the first one, I don't think I ever bought any of their later albums. Not by choice, I just never got around to it. At the beginning, you're actually seeing the end of the movie and the rest of the movie tells you how they got to that part. When shooting the t.v. show, any time one or more of the guys wasn't needed for a while, they'd get sent to the black box until needed. Although they liked the black box and being in it gave them a chance to be creative, in the movie, they hated being shoved into the box and kept ending up there over and over again. I wonder if there were a few more bits where they wound up in the box in those cut scenes? I think "Daddy's Song" was supposed to represent at least one of them being creative while in the box and that's why it became a fantasy song & dance routine. Can you actually picture Mike doing those dance moves if they HAD chosen his version of the song? They couldn't have Davy doing the dancing while Mike was doing the vocals. Also, that box was responsible for helping write the movie. From what I understand, the band, Jack, Bob & Bert all got into the box with a tape recorder and a LOT of weed and just rattled off all the bizarre ideas for what was gonna be in the movie as they smoked the weed and recorded their ideas onto the tape. By the way, Harry Nilsson has at least one other song about his dad leaving him. It's called, "1944" and it sounds a LOT like a cross between, "Daddy's Song". and, "The Courtship Of Eddie's Father" theme song. Just think of how many songs would've never been written had it not been for that war and missing fathers. We never would've gotten "The Wall" (no great loss, as far as I'm concerned!) or half of the rest of Pink Floyd's output!! OKAY, Roger!! WE GET IT!! You're pissed about you losing your dad in the war!! PLEASE write a dozen more albums about it!! The girl in the western scene is Teri Garr (of "Young Frankenstein") This was her very first film and her very first line. Victor Mature had the part of The Big Victor. He represented their parent label, RCA Victor so, that's why there are scenes of him kicking the t.v. in disgust because he doesn't like what's being shown, or with them getting into his hair, them being abused and chased by him in the desert and eventually, them being trapped by him in the black box at the very end during "The Truck Driver's Suite". Victor always seems to come out the victor in the end. Why the cop faints when he sees Victor, I don't know. After the War Chant and battle scenes, it shows them running into a cave and is intercut with them running through a tunnel on their way to the stage to play "Circle Sky" in front of live fans. This was a reference to how, sometimes, them going onto a stage was like going into battle, to them. Of course, as I've said, this proves they are NOT plastic and faking their gigs! But, at the end, they DO suddenly turn into plastic as the girls rip them apart. I used to know what the deal was with the Coke machine. George Michael Dolenz is, of course, Micky's real name. I'm not sure why the one credit slate at the end was printed backwards but, I deciphered it once. The only name I can remember, at the moment, is that of Terry Chambers because, the drummer for XTC was also named Terry Chambers! (If you like The Beatles, you really should get some XTC records! Their singer, Andy Partridge, wrote two songs for The Monkees' last album. Strangely, when he was boy in England, someone had a drawing contest to sketch their fave Monkee, I think, and Andy, being a huge Peter fan, sketched him and won the contest!) Near the end, we're back in the desert but, this time, they're being confronted with everyone in the movie that they pissed off along the way ready to attack them and get even. In the ads I've recently seen, they say the movie is a western, comedy, drama, war, boxing, etc., etc., movie. Oh, and, the way I heard the joke was, they were thinking about making a sequel, "Head II" and that way they could say, "From the people who gave you, "Head"." By the way, did you know that the original single version of "Porpoise Song" was at least a minute longer than the album version? As far as I know, all the Rhino re-issues include the single version instead of the album version. I guess I'm gonna NEED to watch the movie again to see if there's more to tell you. I'm drawing a blank and I haven't had a meal in about 24 hours so, I'm gonna go eat.

Love that photo at 11:35. Duane loved his little brother. Kind of amazing how musically seamless the transition was from Duane to post-Duane in this album. So seamless that although I'd been very familiar with Eat a Peach for a several years, I remained blissfully unaware of Duane's death until my cousin told me how it happened mid-album. That knowledge makes this LP harder to listen to than their others, and I think it was a wise move to put the new songs first, because you don't hear Duane _leave_ if you listen front to back.

In the `60's, we knew how to play our instruments! We didn't NEED a click track!! Sadly, my last bass player sure did!! She was CONSTANTLY playing ahead of the beat and REFUSED to correct herself so, I had to speed up to catch up to her but, as soon as I did, she'd go another fraction of a second ahead of the beat!! By the time we got a minute into the song, I was playing so fucking fast I'm amazed I even had time to ACTUALLY HIT the drums!! The kiddie winkies in music, today, can't do SHIT without SOME kind of technical help!! Can't sing? Autotune it! Can't keep a beat? Click track! Can't play an instrument? We'll steal it from somebody else's records, loop it up and then claim it's "sampling". I don't remember how I found out about the album coming out but, as I lived in about 5 or 6 records stores at the time (get home from school jump on my bike, ride 3 to 6 miles to where all the records stores were; this, I did at least 3 days a week), most likely, I saw it in the Monkees section. From what I recall, there was NO advertisement for the album OR the movie! (None that I ever saw.) I didn't even know the album WAS from a movie until a good while later! The first time I ever saw the movie, it was being shown on t.v. in early Jan. `70 (I think) and I just HAPPENED to run across it while switching channels! Next time I saw it was about 15 years later when I found a copy on VHS. Since then, I've seen it at least 20 times and, every time I watch it, I figure out something else about that I never noticed before! Like the t.v. show, "The Prisoner", it's a gift that keeps on giving! It's kinda like Capt. Beefheart: first listen, it sounds like utter shit but, the more you listen to it, the better you understand it. My first guitarist was so HEAVILY Capt. Beefheart, everybody called HIM, Beefheart! I only got to hear C.B.'s music twice within the first year of my being in the band and once Beef and my singer told me that they AREN'T a bunch of random fucks and they actually WRITE that stuff that way, I quickly gained appreciation for it! Within another couple months, Beef told my singer that he thinks I now understand C.B.'s music better that He (Beef) does!! I've, now, certainly got a LOT more of it than Beef ever did!! That bit with all the TVs was not War Chant, that was Ditty Diego. War Chant takes place in the stadium when the crowd spells out, "WAR!" just before the war scene starts. The mannequin bit was how the media portrays The Monkees as plastic, how the media claims they don't even play their own instruments BECAUSE they're plastic (not a real group) then, just before that, they get up on a stage and PLAY live in front of real fans! How's THAT for being plastic? I started going to college in `85 and took 2 classes (semesters) in T.V. Production and also joined VICOM (the school's VIdeo COMmunications club). I'd JUST picked up the VHS copy of, "Head" shortly before this semester and showed it to the guys in the club and they went BALLISTIC over the kind of amazing edits that were done in this movie!! Especially the middle of "Daddy's Song"! Even with their state of the art editing suites in the club and the t.v. studio, they couldn't IMAGINE how those edits could've been done! Those guys were about 10 years younger than me so, I grew up with tape and hand splicing. They were doing all their editing with knobs and computer-based controls. Even though there IS a lull after the bathroom scene, it's still a great film after that. I suspect that a good part of what was cut was "What the cop dreamed". He goes into a dream and the next bit has absolutely no connection to what has already been shown. Why is the cop dreaming of the guys being chained to a wall? Sure would be nice if somebody would edit back in all those missing bits! It might make even more sense!! It's kinda like how we wonder what Sgt. Pepper would've been like had they INCLUDED Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. I sure hope somebody asks Paul or Ringo where those two songs would've gone in the album before they need HELP! "Whatever the hell this is!" If you recall correctly, Prince did almost the exact same thing at the end of the song, "Purple Rain" and The Beatles sort of did it in, "A Day In The Life". Which reminds me, do you have the soundtrack album for, "The Magic Christian"? It's a lot like, "Head". But, on the original pressing is an instrumental piece called, "A Day In The Life" but, it has nothing to do with The Beatles;' song except that it's played by a full orchestra (Ken Thorne, I think). On subsequent pressings, they changed the title but not the music. So, the original is worth a tad more.

Unfortunately, 'Ramblin' Man' is the tune that would forever brand the ABB as "southern rock". I'm glad that you got to experience the magic of 'Les Bres'. These guys were jazz and soul musicians at heart.
